The Legal Requirements of Wine Labels in the United States
By law, a wine label must include a brand name. This is usually the actual producer’s name, though it does not have to be. Wine labels in the United States must also include the alcohol percentage.
America is the only country in the world that requires a warning label on wine. Other countries leave this up to the personal responsibility of the individual consumer. This warning label reads:
Government Warning:
(1) According to the Surgeon General, women should not drink alcoholic beverages during pregnancy because of the risk of birth defects.
(2) Consumption of alcoholic beverages impairs your ability to drive a car or operate machinery and may cause health problems.
