Madeline Triffon
Madeline Triffon is the Director of Wine and Beverages for the Detroit-based Unique Restaurant Corporation. Triffon oversees all of the wine and drinks for four high-end restaurants including Northern Lakes Seafood Company, Duet, No. VI Chophouse & Lobster Bar, and Morels, A Michigan Bistro.
After graduating from the University of Michigan in 1977, Triffon went to work for the Westin Corporation. The company was planning to open a restaurant in Detroit, and she was given the job of wine steward for the new venture.
During Triffon’s tenure at Westin Corporation, her knowledge and responsibilities steadily grew. She clearly impressed the higher-ups because in 1985, her boss entered her in New York City’s National Sommelier Competition. Triffon did extremely well in the competition, and solidified her reputation as one of the world’s top rising wine professionals.
After this watershed event in her career, she became the wine steward for the London Chop House; one of Detroit’s finest restaurants. But even bigger things lay ahead for Madeline Triffon. In 1987, she was invited by the Court of Master Sommeliers to take the wine industry’s most vaunted exam. This was an amazing accomplishment in and of itself. Even more impressive, though, was that she passed on her first try!
Madeline Triffon continues to be an active member of the Court of Master Sommeliers, and is on the Board of Directors for the American Chapter. She has held her current position at the Unique Restaurant Corporation since 1995. Under her stewardship, the company’s restaurants have won many accolades for their wine lists and service.
