DESCRIPTION OF WINE TOUR

Lodi is one of the biggest wine grape growing regions in California. One of Lodi’s most popular events is the yearly Grape Festival. Additionally, a Spring Wine Show takes place each year. So many well-known and small wineries call the Lodi area home. Gather a few like-minded friends and tour Lodi’s wineries
.
The first tasting room stop is Peirano Estate Vineyards. The Peirano family has grown grapes in the Lodi area for four generations. In the 1990s, Lance Randolph, the present representative of the Peirano family, renovated a house his family had built early in the 20th century and opened one of Lodi’s first tasting rooms. Stroll the lawn, rest under the shade trees and taste the wine, products of well-matured vines.

For guests wishing a brief tour of a Lodi winery, the Lucas Winery is a great place to start. Visitors can see the vineyard and receive a brief on wine growing techniques. The winery also offers a more in-depth tour. The Lucas Winery was established in 1978 and focuses its attention on unblended varietals. Visitors can sample the Chardonnay and the Zinfandel.

The wine taster may like to go to Michael David Winery next. This winery encourages tasters to go outside and utilize the picnic area. Michael Phillips and David Phillips trace their roots to the farm once operated by their great-great grandfather Andrew Harshner, who homesteaded in the 1860s. While visiting, enjoy the bakery, the fruit stand and the winery.

The last winery of the day is Van Ruiten Family Winery. This winery has a patio and courtyard. John Van Ruiten, a Dutch immigrant, bought his first vineyard in the 1950s. Today, his family has over 800 acres of vines. The winery was constructed for the 2000 harvest. Many of the original Zinfandel vines still are part of the estate.
