The Santa Ynez Valley is noted for its climate and soil that lends perfect conditions for growing Rhone and Bordeaux style wine varietals. Visitors can taken in shopping, art galleries and plan a wine tasting tour.

A good first stop is the Andrew Murray Vineyards tasting room in Los Olivos or at the winery. Andrew Murray offers an array of wines in a broad spectrum of price ranges. This winery is noted for its white wines and its Syrah. Visitors can enjoy a flight while relaxing on the leather couch in a pleasant atmosphere. Try the Viognier and the Syrah.

Next move on to Beckmen Vineyards. Enjoy the gazebo located by a duck pond. This winery has received a number of accolades for its Rhone varietals. Estate grown Syrah, Grenache Blanc, Grenache, Grenache Rose, Marsanne and the Cuvee Le Bec, which is a blend, highlight the best the region has to offer. to Beckmen also vints and bottles Cabernet Sauvignon and Sauvignon Blanc that are grown at other small vineyards.

Stop by The Brander Vineyard. This rustic property features a number of trees, including redwood trees, a courtyard and flowers. Bring a picnic lunch to enjoy on the deck or under the shaded courtyard. The Brander Vineyard is one of the original Santa Ynez Valley vineyards and features small runs of Bordeaux style red wines. It also has received accolades for its Sauvignon Blanc.

Finally, to round out the day, visit Koehler Winery, which is part of the Foxen Canyon Wine Trail. Picnic tables are available for an afternoon snack. Koehler produces Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, a Tuscan blend, Grenache, a Cepage (Grenache, Syrah and Mourvedre), Pinot Noir, Sangiovese, Chardonnay, a white blend, Sauvignon Blanc and Riesling.
