Mary Ewing Mulligan

Mary Ewing Mulligan is a highly respected wine writer, educator, and critic. She is on the short list of Americans whom have received the Master of Wine diploma, and frequently judges some of the world’s biggest wine competitions.

Mary Ewing Mulligan has the distinction of being the first American woman to earn the title Master of Wine. She is also the North American President of the governing body responsible for bestowing this honor: The Institute of the Masters of Wine.

Along with her husband, Ed McCarthy, Mulligan co-authored Wine for Dummies as well as several more specific versions of the title. She also wrote Wine Style, Using your senses to explore and enjoy wine, and has contributed to The Wine Spectator, The New York Times, Gourmet, Food & Wine Magazine, and The New York Daily News.

As an educator, Mulligan has some impressive credits on her resume. She is the President of the International Wine Cellar in New York which is a top educational institution for wine professionals and connoisseurs. Mulligan is also the Executive Director in America for the Wine & Spirits Education Trust.
