John Daniel Jr

John Daniel Jr was Gustave Niebaum's great nephew and heir to Inglenook. He was the winemaker from 1939 to 1964 and was known as being a perfectionist who never cut corners on the quality of his wines. If part of his production was not up to his lofty standards, he simply refused to sell it.

In the years after the repeal of Prohibition, Inglenook produced one of the best received verticals in the history of California Wine Country. The Inglenook Cabernet Sauvignon is regarded by many experts as one of the best wines ever made.

During the 1960s, Hublein bought the Inglenook label and part of the property from John Daniel’s heirs. Unfortunately, the Inglenook label began to appear on jug wines, but this was a sign of the times.
