Ed Sbragia
Ed Sbragia has been the winemaker for Beringer Vineyard for the past 28 years. He is noted for making great wines out many different varietals.
In 2004, Sbragia announced the release of his own line of wines next year. Sbragia will release seven different limited production wines. Sbragia will continue to work at Beringer, where he is best known for the Private Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon.
For those who have tasted his many wines at Beringer, it is no surprise that his debut 2002 Gamble Ranch Vineyard Chardonnay and 2001 Ranch Del Oso Cabernet Sauvignon are both excellent.
His Chardonnay is an interesting wine that starts in the big, buttery style and finishes with finesse. The fruit for his Cab was sourced from the sun-exposed Howell Mountain AVA. It is a full-bodied masterpiece that will surely become more complex with age.
