Very high temperatures cause the atoms and ions that make up limestone and dolostone to restructure themselves into larger crystals, creating marble. Limestone is a sedimentary rock made of and dolostone is a sedimentary rock that has a lot of dolomite.

Marble is made mainly of calcite, which is the most common ingredient in all metamorphic rocks. There are many different colors of marble, depending on the impurities that were present in the limestone or dolostone. If there are very few impurities, the marble will be white.
