In 1908, the Zanger Family began planting orchards in Pacheco Pass. During the mid 1940s, George, Eugene, and Joseph Zanger opened a fruit stand on the side of the road. Unfortunately, George has passed away, but Eugene and Joseph continue operating the business as the family patriarchs.
Their grape wines included Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Zinfandel, White Zinfandel, Chardonnay, Gewurztraminer, Sparkling Muscat, and Sec Sparkling Wine.
Zanger Vineyards makes a number of other wines, many of them quite unconventional. They are the only winery in California that I know of that makes Mead. This is a medieval drink made out of fermented honey. Zanger also makes a number of wines made out of different fruits. Additionally, they make chocolate, candy, and dried fruits.
