Diane and Ken Wilson own 220 acres of hillside vineyards throughout the Dry Creek Valley AVA. Each property is named in honor of a member of the Wilson Family. These include Carl’s Vineyard, Dorothy’s Vineyard, Ellie’s Vineyard, Sawyer Vineyard, Tori Vineyard, and Sydney Vineyard.
Since their inaugural wine, the 1994 Sydney Vineyard Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon, Diane and Ken Wilson have made quite a splash in the winemaking community. Their 1994 Cab was honored at the prestigious 2000 Sonoma County Harvest Fair when it took home a Gold Medal and was also awarded Best in Class. Most recently, the couple’s 2004 Tori Vineyard Zinfandel won the red wine category at the 2006 Sonoma County Harvest Fair.
Diane Wilson is the winemaker for the family label. She is also a talented chef and has a background in biochemistry. She brings her acute senses as well as extensive scientific knowledge to her profession. Explaining her approach, Diane says, “My philosophy of winemaking is to maximize the fruit flavor in the grape. Make sure each wine has a front, a middle and a back so you produce a full, rich mouth feel.”
In 2004, Diane made 4 different Zinfandels including the Carl’s Vineyard, Sawyer Vineyard, and Tori Vineyard. She also made the 2004 Reserve Zinfandel which is a blend of the family’s best grapes. In addition to Zin, Diane Wilson makes Cabernet Sauvignon, Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon, Reserve Cabernet Franc, Syrah, Petite Sirah, Merlot, Blushing Flamingo Merlot (Rose), and a Late Harvest Zinfandel.
