Wildhurst Vineyards

Mark as Favorite

Wildhurst Vineyards and Winery is owned by the Holdenreid Family. They have been farming in Lake County for several generations. For years, the family grew pear orchards but now they focus on grape growing.

Region: Lake County
Sub Region: Red Hills
Wine: View all wines

Wildhurst Vineyards is located near Mount Konocti in the Red Hills AVA. In 1966, Myron Holdenreid planted the family’s first vineyards, consisting of approximately 30 acres of Zinfandel. Thus, Wildhurst Vineyards was born. The word hurst is Gaelic for “wooded hillside.”

Despite Wildhurst’s long history of growing grapes, they did not complete their production facility until 1997. Winemaker Mark Birch now has access to the best wine presses and temperature controlled fermentation containers. The building is also used to sort the several types of pears the family continues to grow on their land.

Birch currently makes several wines including a Reserve Cabernet Franc. He has been involved in agriculture his entire life and brings considerable expertise to Wildhurst Vineyards. His resume includes working for Sebastiani Vineyards and Kendall Jackson.
