Formerly known as Van Roekel Vineyard, VR La Cereza is located in the Temecula Valley AVA. Owners Maurice and Cheri Linn also own Maurice Car’rie Winery and are best known for Gewurztraminer and Grenache at VR La Cereza.
The winery’s 2005 Gewurztraminer recently won the Temecula Valley Wine Society’s Second Annual Wine Competition. Their 2002 Grenache won the previous year’s competition.
But perhaps VR La Cereza’s most impressive accomplishment was winning the 2006 California State Fair Commercial Wine Competition with their 2005 Temecula Valley Viognier. Almost 3,000 wines were entered in this competition.
VR La Cereza recently released a wine specifically targeted to females called “Girlfriends.” Owner Cheri Linn was the driving force behind creating the product. It is a light bodied white cuvee of Chenin Blanc, Sauvignon Blanc, Riesling, and Chardonnay that has floral aromas and fruit forward flavors.
Cheri and several of her friends worked closely with winemaker Gus Vizgirda to assemble the final blend. The eye-catching label depicts a lady smoking a cigar.
