Vineyard 7 & 8 is a Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay specialist located in the Spring Mountain AVA. Owners John and Louse Steffens recently finished construction of new production facilities and a wine cave for aging.
The property was originally planted in the late 19th century, and was restored in 1985 after the second outbreak of phylloxera. The 16 acres of vineyards are split evenly between Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay.
Larry Langbehn is the head winemaker at Vineyard 7 & 8. He has over 3 decades of experience in the California wine industry and was the winemaker at Freemark Abbey for many years. Christian Le Sommer is the consulting winemaker. He was previously the manager at Chateau Latour for over a decade.
The wine is made out of 100% free run juice which is quite rare. This avoids the harsher tannins that are extracted from pressing the must. An extremely expensive way to make wine, the result is quite stunning.
