As the owner and operator of a hot air balloon adventure company, David Bradley offered rides over vineyards. He soon realized that he needed to do some research and learn about the different varietals and about the wine growing region. He also needed to understand weather in order operate a safe balloon enterprise. He started applying that knowledge to grapes.

Eventually, Mr. Bradley and his wife Gail embraced starting their own vineyard and winery. Vindemia Vineyard & Estate was established in 2002. The estate was planted with Grenache, Syrah, Zinfandel, Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Sirah. The Bradleys plan to add Petit Verdot. The hope is to bring the winery production up to 5,000-8,000 cases. In the meantime, they also have 100 olive trees, from which olive is produced. The Bradleys, also have sewn lavender and rose gardens, two flowers that thrive in the Temecula climate as much as grapes do.

Vindemia Estate Winery is a work in progress. Mr. and Mrs. Bradley still are involved with the hot air balloon business. Guests looking for adventure can participate in an early morning ride that is followed with a breakfast of mimosa, fruit, bread and cheese in the garden. Tastings occur in a large tent on the estate grounds. Some of the wines available are a 2008 Grenache, a 2008 Cabernet Franc and a 2007 Zinfandel. Vindemia also produces a Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and a Cabernet Franc blend known as Commonwealth. A facility to house the tasting room is in the plans.
