Ventana Vineyards

Mark as Favorite

Ventana Vineyards produces several award winning, estate wines. Calling Douglas Meador an innovator would be an understatement; he is more of a visionary.

Region: Monterey County
Sub Region: Arroyo Seco
Wine: View all wines

Ventana Vineyards was founded on the principles of owner Doug Meador. One of Meador’s main goals was to put Monterey County on the map as one of California’s premier wine producing regions. This was no small task when he first began establishing his vineyards in 1972.

But over the past three decades, he has had many triumphs. One of the main reasons for Meador’s success in wine competitions is his innovative cold climate farming techniques. He spaces his vines very closely and uses a split canopy trellis system. These strategies improve the quality of their fruit.

All of the wines in their Estate Collection are made from fruit produced in their vineyard. Their Estate Whites include Chardonnay, Gewurztraminer, Riesling and Sauvignon Blanc. These varietals thrive in the vineyards’ cool climate.

The winery’s Estate Reds have been winning awards with similar consistency. They produce quality Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Syrah.
