Tablas Creek Winery is a partnership between American Robert Haas, and the Perrin Family of France. Both parties are major players in the international wine industry. They specialize in Rhone varietals and produce about 20,000 cases of wine a year.
The 2002 Esprit de Beaucastel Red is made from estate grapes. It is a blend of 57% Mourvedre, 27% Syrah, 10% Grenache, and 6% Counoise. The nose is dominated by raspberries and spice. The flavor profile consists of ripe, peppery fruit. Only 2,000 cases were produced.
The 2001 Cotes de Tablas is also an estate wine. It is a blend of 38% Mourvedre, 34% Syrah, 24% Grenache, and 4% Counoise. This wine was lightly filtered to retain its dramatic flavor profile.
