Story Winery

Mark as Favorite

Like many Amador County producers, Story Winery makes very good Zinfandel. But they also make very small amounts of a much more unusual varietal: the Mission. This was the original grape planted in California by the Franciscans.

In 1992, Bruce and Jan Tichenor purchased Story Winery from Ann Story Ousley. Ousley established the winery in 1973, but the first vines were planted just after the turn of the 20th century. The Shenandoah has a very long history of wine production that was interrupted by Prohibition, but revived in the 1960s and 1970s.

The Tichenors’ children also help with the operations of the winery during busy parts of the year. Story is best known for Zinfandel and their limited Mission, but they also make Merlot, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, and a sparkling wine.

Story Winery produces several single vineyard Zinfandels. These include the 2002 Gold Hill, 2002 Winzerhof, 2002 Hill Top, 2003 Creekside, 2003 Picnic Hill, and 2004 Alitia Vineyard.
