Stags Leap Wine Cellars

Mark as Favorite

Stags Leap Wine Cellars was founded in 1972. At the 1976 Blind Tasting in Paris, owner Warren Winiarski beat some of the premiere red wines from Bordeaux.

Region: Napa Valley
Sub Region: Stags Leap
Wine: View all wines

Stags Leap Wine Cellars was one of the first Post-Prohibition wineries in the then relatively unknown Stags Leap District. Winiarski apprenticed with winemaking legend Andre Tchelistcheff.

His skills were on display at the 1976 Paris Tasting, where his 1973 Cask 23 bested some of Bordeaux’ finest. Winiarski was instrumental in bringing international fame to the viticultural area. Largely because of Winiarski’s efforts, Stags Leap is currently regarded as one of the premiere Cab regions in the world.

The winery currently makes several red and white wines, including a few single vineyard examples. Their tasting room offers some great flights of wines in different price ranges, and they are currently constructing a new visitor center.
