Staglin Family Vineyards
Staglin Family Vineyards is located on the Rutherford Bench. The winery owns approximately 50 acres of vineyards divided between Cabernet Sauvignon, Sangiovese and Chardonnay. Staglin only produces about 3,000 cases of wine a year.
Ramon Staglin first introduced the winemaking process to his son Garen at a very young age. Garen went to UCLA for his undergraduate education and finished up at Stanford Business. He eventually met his future wife Shari, and they prospered as venture capitalists.
In 1982, the couple bought a 62 acre ranch in the Rutherford AVA. Their vineyards creep up the base of the Mayacamas Mountains.
The property was planted under the direct supervision of California Wine legend Andre Tchelistcheff. Since then, the Staglin Family has produced a number of excellent wines. Annual production is limited to 5,000 cases and only the best, organically farmed grapes are used.
The Staglin’s 2002 Anniversary Selection Cab was recently awarded 97 points from Robert Parker. This remarkably balanced wine has very smooth tannins. They also produce Chardonnay and Sangiovese. An appointment is required to visit Staglin Family Vineyards.
