Sine Qua Non is Latin for, “without which, it could not be.” Elaine and Manfred Krank are the owners of the winery. Also the winemaker, Manfred produced his first vintage at Alban Vineyards in 1994. Sine Quo Non is now based in Ventura, but continues to source grapes from several premium properties including Syrah from Bien Nacido Vineyard and Viognier from Alban.
The winery is located in Santa Barbara County and makes a red blend of Syrah and Grenache called Rien Ne Va Plus, and Whisperin E, a white blend of Chardonnay, Roussanne, and Viognier.
Winemaker Manfred Krank has worked with several luminaries in California’s wine industry including John Alban, Brian Babcock, and Michael Havens. Manfred also designs original artwork for each label and gives each wine its own name.
Some of Sine Qua Non’s recent wines include Hollerin M (Pinot Noir), Just For The Love Of It (96% Syrah, 2% Grenache, and 2% Viognier), The Straw Man (Vin de Paille (very sweet) made with Semillon), The Ice Man (Sweet Gewurztraminer), and SQN Grenache.
