Shadow Canyon Cellars

Mark as Favorite

Shadow Canyon Cellars is located high above the Pacific Ocean in the Santa Lucia Mountains. Their hillside vineyard is planted exclusively with Syrah. Attention to detail from budbreak to bottling ensures a consistent, quality product.

Shadow Canyon Cellars is located in the York Mountain AVA. These vines are able to take full advantage of cool, coastal winds that enter the region through the Templeton Gap. At the same time, days during the growing season are typically sunny and warm.

These large temperature swings allow the grapes to have longer hang time, and ultimately translates into complex wines. Shadow Canyon also limits the yield of their vines to two tons per acre, which further concentrates the flavor in each grape. The vines are regularly pruned and harvest is always done by hand.

For even more complexity and balance, the winery has five different clones of Syrah at their disposal. The rootstocks were carefully chosen with attention to microclimate, soil and clone type. Shadow Canyon also sources grapes to produce Cabernet Sauvignon, Grenache, Viognier, and Pinot Blanc.
