Schramsberg Vineyards

In 1862, Jacob and Anna Schram founded Schramsberg Vineyards. The Schrams were the first vintners to plant hillside vineyards in Napa. The couple grew Zinfandel, Riesling, and Mission grapes.

In 1965, Jack and Jamie Davies bought the historic property and began producing sparkling wines in the traditional method. Today, Jack and Jamie Davies’ son Hugh is the president and winemaker at Schramsberg. He is passionate about building on the foundation laid by the Schrams and his parents.
Although Schramsberg has long been known for producing sparkling wines, the winery recently released a Cabernet Sauvignon. The 2001 J. Davies Cabernet Sauvignon uses grapes from the Diamond Mountain AVA. A little over 500 cases were produced.
Despite this notable effort, the winery’s focus remains on sparkling wine production. They were recently awarded the designation of “America’s best Sparkling Wines” by Wine Spectator. Although Schramsberg produces sparkling wines on Diamond Mountain, most of their grapes are sourced from cooler regions.
