Round Hill Winery
Round Hill Winery is collaboration between Ernie Van Asperen and Charlie Abela. Ernie originally sold his grapes to other wineries before trying his hand at winemaking.

Round Hill Winery is a great success story in Napa Valley. They produced the first wine made in a ghost winery in St Helena. Ghost wineries are Pre-Prohibition production facilities that were abandoned after the 18th amendment was enacted.
Round Hill’s original vineyard is located off of Silverado Trail in the eastern part of the Rutherford AVA. Since its modest beginnings, the winery has greatly expanded production. Investors Marko and Theo Zaninovich recently acquired primary ownership. They also own a large conglomerate of wine producers called ASV Wineries.
Steve Rued is the winemaker at Round Hill. Like many of Napa’s industry professionals, he was educated at UC Davis where he graduated with a degree in Fermentation Science. Other members of Round Hill’s team include consulting winemaker Barry Gnekow, enologist Tyson Wolf, and cellar master Terry Marsh.
The winery makes three distinct labels consisting of Round Hill, Rutherford Ranch, and Rutherford Ranch Reserve. They produce Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Zinfandel, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, and White Zinfandel.
