The Rosenblum 2002 Rockpile Road Zinfandel is made from 100 year old Zinfandel vines from the winery’s St. Peter’s Church vineyard. This is my favorite Rosenblum wine, and they make several great ones. It is an impressive translation of the AVA’s viticultural growing conditions.

The winery’s 2002 Monte Rosso Zinfandel is an intense wine that captures the essence of the varietal beautifully. Ripe fruit and chocolate flavors are framed by substantial, but mellow tannins.

The 2001 Lyons Vineyard Zinfandel is sourced from century old vines grown on the sunny, eastern hillsides of the Napa Valley. The high alcohol content of this wine is balanced by fruit and strong tannins. This is one of the most full bodied Zins I have ever tasted.

Rosenblum is a fascinating producer than makes many bottlings of Zinfandel from vineyards throughout the state. As far as I know, they buy all of their grapes and are able to focus exclusively on winemaking. This business model is increasingly popular in the California wine industry, as it avoids the huge upfront costs of purchasing land and planting grapes.

I tend to be a Rosenblum follower. Not only are their Zins killer, but they make some great Syrahs and dessert wines (try the late harvest semillion, osborn ranch). Also, if you have a chance, check out their quarterly open house. For $25 they pour a ton of different wines and have great food.

Actually, we own and grow one vineyard in the Russian River Valley (Lone Oak), which I didn't realize until I started working there.

As for the Vintner's Cuvee, that's only the tip of the iceberg. With four tiers of quality, that's the first--meant to be more of an introduction to the wines.

What would you recommend Farley?

With about 60 wines total, it's hard to choose favorites, but I'll try.
Planchon Zin, SF Bay Mourvedre, Hendry Reserve Zin (only at winery),Santa Barbara Syrah, Holbrook Mitchell Trio, and Preston Marsanne

We're open for tasting everyday, and I change the menu every week (usually listed on Wine Outlook).

Hi 4bottles, Rosenblum is located at 2900 Main St, Alameda, CA. Their phone # is (510) 865-7007. I'm pretty sure they have another tasting room in Healdsburg.

Bradny is correct. 4bottles, I'm there Tuesday through Saturday. Come on by!
