Robert Keenan Vineyards

Mark as Favorite

Robert Keenan Vineyards is on land that was initially planted with grapes in the late 19th century. But its true potential was not unlocked until Mr. Keenan acquired the land in 1974. Since then, the property has been producing wines with big, bold flavors.

Robert Keenan Vineyards is located high above the valley floor in the Spring Mountain AVA. Peter Conradi was the first to realize the property’s potential. Although Conradi’s eye for land was good, his timing was not. Prohibition put a stop to winemaking and the winery and vineyards were abandoned.

In 1974, Robert Keenan acquired 180 acres of property around the old Conradi Winery. Keenan built his winery with the rubble of Conradi’s house, and initially planted Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay. Merlot was subsequently planted to round out the vineyards. Keenan made his first wine in 1977.

Keenan currently produces about 10,000 cases of wine a year split between Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Chardonnay. He has won numerous awards over the years for these three grapes, but is probably best known for Merlot.
