Robert Craig Wine Cellars

Mark as Favorite

Robert Craig Wine Cellars uses grapes from three distinct vineyards for their award winning Cabs. These wines are consistently age worthy, but also pleasant on release.

Region: Napa Valley

Robert Craig Wine Cellars produces Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, and Syrah from several Napa Valley AVAs. Their production facilities are located on Howell Mountain and they have a tasting room in Downtown Napa.

The winery produces Cabs from the Napa Valley Floor, Mount Veeder, and Howell Mountain. They also makes a Bordeaux blend called Affinity and a great Chardonnay from Carneros.

This impressive winery tailors its care for each vineyard to the local characteristics of climate and soil. The winemakers ferment each lot separately, and blending is meticulous.

The 2001 Mount Veeder Cabernet Sauvignon is a powerhouse of a wine that will mellow with age. It is a blend of 90% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Merlot and 3% Cabernet Franc. Well-framed with substantial tannins, it will probably not reach its potential for a decade.

The Robert Craig 2001 Howell Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon has smoother tannins than their Mount Veeder Cab. I tasted black currants and cherries with unmistakable spice.

Robert Craig Wine Cellars also makes a great Bordeaux blend. The 2001 Affinity is made with grapes from Rutherford, Oakville, Coombsville and Carneros. Using grapes from four distinct growing areas, it is a complex, elegant wine with herbaceous notes.

The Robert Craig Cellars 2002 Carneros-Napa Valley Chardonnay has a deep flavor profile with notes of apple, vanilla and spice. Slightly oaked, it develops on the palate to a decadent finish.
