Retro Cellars

Mark as Favorite

Owned by Mike and Kara Dunn, Retro Cellars is a cult producer of Petite Sirah. They make this wine with grapes from the Muscatine Vineyard located high on Howell Mountain.

Region: Napa Valley
Sub Region: Howell Mountain
Wine: View all wines

Retro Cellars is located on Howell Mountain in the northeast hills of the Napa Valley AVA. Mike has been working at Muscatine Vineyard for years and knew that the property’s extremely low yields, (about one ton per acre), would make a rich and extracted wine.

The son of Randy Dunn, Mike is from one of Napa Valley’s elite winemaking families. Randy owns Muscatine Vineyard and previously sold grapes from the property to a list of impressive wineries. These include Ridge Vineyards, Elyse, La Jota, and Stags Leap Winery.

198 cases were made of the Retro Cellars 2003 Petite Sirah. Yeast strains were carefully selected for fermentation and the wine was aged in 75% new French oak barrels for 18 months.

Mike and Kara’s son, Alex, is a natural artist and amazingly created the original artwork for the label at age 11! Clearly the apple does not fall far from the tree as the Dunn Family has been expressing themselves through the art of winemaking for many years.
