Renwood specializes in Zinfandel, but also makes some great wines with Rhone and Italian varietals. They are one of the leading producers from the emerging Sierra Foothills. Robert Parker has remarked that the winery is, “A tour de force in winemaking.”
The Renwood Winery 2001 Jack Rabbit Flat Zinfandel is one of the most intense Zinfandels I have ever tasted. The inky color is indicative of the massive flavor profile of this wine. It is a quintessential Sierra Foothills Zinfandel.
The Renwood Winery 2002 Fiddletown Zinfandel is sourced from the 85 year old vines of the legendary Eschen-Rinaldi Vineyard. The hillside vines are not irrigated, giving its grapes intense flavor. It is not quite as full-bodied as the previous Zin, but it is close.
Renwood’s 2001 Amador County Barbera shows why there has been so much excitement about the production of Rhone varietals in the region. It is more full bodied than most California Barberas I have tasted.
