Rancho Arroyo Grande Winery and Vineyard is located in the northern part of the Arroyo Grande Valley AVA. The 4,000 acre property is planted with 240 acres of premium grapes. Vines are grown in different microclimates and soil types. Some are in valleys, while others are in the hills.
Because of the proximity of the Pacific Ocean, many parts of the estate are ideal for growing Burgundian varietals. Along with Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, Syrah and Zinfandel are also grown.
The soils in their vineyard are peppered with gravel, sand, and limestone. Pinot Noir and Chardonnay have an affinity for lime rich soil with a high pH. Zinfandel and Syrah like the alluvial fans and hillsides because they drain so well. This causes the vines to grow large, complex root systems in search of water in the subsoil. The winery limits grape yield to three tons per acre.
Rancho Arroyo Grande Winery’s latest release is a blend of Syrah and Zinfandel called Gist Silver Edition. This innovative wine is made from grapes grown in Thereza Vineyard.
