Quintessa’s 170 acre vineyard is on Silverado Trail in the Rutherford AVA. The property is planted with Bordeaux varietals. Because of the diversity of the land, the vineyard has been split into 26 blocks. Each is distinct from the others by a combination of microclimate, soil and topography.
The property is planted with 129 acres of Cabernet Sauvignon, 26 acres of Merlot, 7 acres of Cabernet Franc, 4 acres of Petit Verdot, and 4 acres of Carmenere. All of the land is farmed using biodynamic principles. These include avoiding chemical pest control, minimizing soil manipulation and using cover crops.
The winery at Quintessa is a marvel of architectural design, effectively marrying form and function. The crescent-shaped design fits perfectly into the slopes of the hills around the vineyards. The winery produces a single distinguished wine. It is widely regarded as a top tier wine in the Napa Valley, which is saying a lot.
