Lou and Susan Preston are the owners of Preston Vineyards. The Preston Family has been making wine in Dry Creek Valley for over 3 decades. Lou grew up working on his family’s cattle ranch in Russian River Valley. During the early 1970s, he bought his first vineyard from the legendary Americo Rafanelli, founder of Rafanelli Winery.
In 1973, Lou and Susan Preston bought the adjacent 40 acre Hartstock Ranch, 19 acre Bell Ranch, and 10 acre Cavallo Ranch. The couple purchased Guadagni Ranch the following year. Some of the Zinfandel vines at Guadagni Ranch were planted in 1895. Lou Preston was the first president of the Wine Growers of Dry Creek.
Winemaker Matt Norelli takes a “minimalist” approach and does not interfere with the grapes’ natural flavors. He attended UC Davis and specializes in vinifying Italian and Rhone varietals.
The L. Preston is a blend of red Rhone varietals including Syrah, Mourvedre, Cinsault, and Carignane. The winery also makes Roussanne, Viognier, Sauvignon Blanc, Zinfandel, Barbera, Cinsault, Carignane, and blend of Syrah and Petite Sirah.

Good values, good wine, and a great spot for a picnic. It tends to be uncrowded, even on the weekends, since it is just a bit out of the way. Enjoy some of Lou's homemade bread to cleanse your palate during tastings.
