Prager Winery & Port Works
Prager Winery & Port Works is located just north of Sutter Home Winery in the St Helena AVA. The winery specializes in Port-style fortified wines including Vintage, Tawny, Late Bottle Vintage, and White.
The winery’s first harvest was 1979 and current production is 3,600 cases of wine a year. In addition to fortified wines, Prager also makes a few table wines that include Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, and sweet Riesling. But Port is their specialty.
Prager’s Noble Companion Napa Valley Tawny Port is made with 100% Cabernet Sauvignon grapes. Because they are oxidized during the production process, Tawny Ports will last for much longer than Vintage Ports after they are opened.
The 2004 Tomas Port is produced with Tinta Cao and Touriga Nacional. Both of these grapes are traditionally used in the Douro Valley of Portugal: the homeland of Port. This wine has 18.5% alcohol and was produced in a quantity of 450 cases.
