Ponte Family Estate Winery
The Ponte brothers, Roberto and Claudio, began growing grapes in Temecula in 1984. They opened Ponte Family Winery, restaurant and tasting room in 2003. The estate facility sits amid some 300 plus acres of vineyard and grounds. The Pontes now generate approximately 15,000 cases of wine each year and host special events at the estate.
The Pontes have worked hard to create an elegant, yet friendly experience for visitors. The estate has several gardens that offer pleasant views of the surrounding mountains and vineyards. Embracing California’s history, the brothers designed mission-style buildings that serve as the tasting room and as the barrel room. Visitors to the tasting room also may take advantage of the gourmet food and gift shop. In order to create an even greater wine country experience, the Pontes established an award-winning restaurant called Restaurant at Ponte. On the outdoor patio, guests can dine on fresh, local foods with perfectly paired wines. Currently, the brothers have an inn planned.
Ponte Family Estate Winery has decided to make sustainability integral to its operation. The Pontes are using the newest trellising techniques in order to eliminate the need for synthetic chemicals and fertilizers. Compost is serving to replenish the vineyard’s exhausted soils after decades of high energy-use practices. Leaf pulling allows the fruit to receive more sun, thus greatly enhancing the grapes’ flavors. Some of the grapes grown are Cabernet Sauvignon, Grenache, Pinto Grigio, Sangiovese, Muscat, Montepulciano, Barbera, Chardonnay, Cabernet Franc and several more.
