Founded in 1978, the Pine Ridge Winery is well known for implementing the best aspects of Old World winemaking with New World innovation. However, winemaking is not the only component of their success. Pine Ridge is located in the Stags Leap AVA, but owns over 220 acres of vines throughout the Napa Valley. Having vineyards in distinct AVAs gives the producer versatility in the varietals it grows.

The volcanic soils of their Stags Leap Vineyard are best for producing Cabernet Sauvignon. The vineyard is exposed to ample sunlight as well as cool breeze from the San Pablo Bay. This makes for berries with intense, vibrant flavors and layers of complexity. Their cooler Carneros vineyard is well suited for growing Chardonnay and Merlot.

The Pine Ridge 1999 Andrus Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon is an outstanding product of Stags Leap terroir. Small amounts of Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petite Verdot and Malbec are added to give this powerful, complex blend grace and balance. This wine’s combination of strength and approachability is characteristic of Stags Leap.
