Pina Napa Valley

Mark as Favorite

Although Pina Napa Valley was not established until 1981, the Pina Family traces their winemaking heritage to the 1960s. Their ancestor, Lafayette Stice, planted grapes and made wine near St Helena.

Region: Napa Valley
Sub Region: Rutherford
Wine: View all wines

Pina Napa Valley owns or leases several local vineyards and is renowned for Cabernet Sauvignon. The Pina Family also buys grapes from several growers, and only makes single vineyard wines.

In 2004, Ted Osborne became the winemaker at Pina. He also owns the Olasbisi Wines label. Osborne’s resume includes working at Chateau du Seuil in Graves, Storybrook Mountain Vineyards in Calistoga, Passing Clouds Winery in Australia, and Rothschild Vignerons in South Africa.

In 1960, the Pina Family bought 30 acres in eastern hills of the Rutherford wine region. They subsequently planted Cabernet Sauvignon in their Estate Vineyard. Since 1982, Pina has been leasing D’Adamo Vineyard in the Atlas Peak AVA. But they never made a wine with these grapes until the 2004 vintage.

In 1996, Pina bought a steep property in the Howell Mountain AVA. They planted Cabernet Sauvignon on the sunny hillsides, and named it Buckeye Vineyard. Their fist vintage from these grapes was the 2000 Howell Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon. In the same year, they began leasing Ames Vineyard in the eastern hills of Oakville.
