Piedra Hill Vineyard was established by Bill and Joan Smith. The couple also owns La Jota Vineyards in the Howell Mountain AVA and W.H. Smith in the Sonoma Coast AVA.

Piedra Hill Vineyard was created with the goal of producing outstanding Cabernet Sauvignon based wines from the Howell Mountain AVA. It is a relatively new addition to this world famous wine region.
The hillside property is planted with the 5 classic red Bordeaux varietals (Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, and Malbec). Bill Smith produces a Cabernet Sauvignon based blend from his estate vineyard.
Smith made only 425 cases of the 2003 Howell Mountain Piedra Hill Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon. It is a Bordeaux blend comprised of 76% Cab. Smith is assisted by Carlos Montero who is the cellarmaster and vineyard manager.
In addition to Piedra Hill Vineyard, Bill and Joan Smith also own La Jota Vineyards on Howell Mountain and W.H. Smith, a Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir specialist.
