In 1981, Philip Togni began establishing his vineyards in the Spring Mountain wine region. Planted on the AxR1 rootstock, the vines were hit by the resurgence of phylloxera in the mid 1980s. Turning this crisis into an opportunity, Mr. Togni replanted with better clones and vine spacing.

Togni’s wines are in high demand and he only ships his products out once a year during early spring. He currently has 3 wines available: the 2004 Cabernet Sauvignon, 1996 Cabernet Sauvignon (10 year anniversary re-release), and splits of the 2001 Ca’ Togni Sweet Red Wine.

The Ca’ Togni is made with the uncommon Black Hamburgh grape. It has a high amount of residual sugar and was made to enjoy on release without any additional age. A very small quantity of this wine was produced in 2001.

The 2004 Philip Togni Cabernet Sauvignon has complex black fruit, tobacco, and leather flavors balanced by a nice amount of acidity and supple tannins. It is quite lush on the mid-palate, and although it could age for a few years, the wine is drinking quite well in its youth.
