When one thinks of California wine, often the first thoughts turn to Napa and Sonoma Valleys. However, what is not always well known is that Lodi is considered California’s wine grape capital. Every wine lover should take a tour of some of Lodi’s wineries.
Lodi is one of the biggest wine grape growing regions in California. One of Lodi’s most popular events is the yearly Grape Festival. Additionally, a Spring Wine Show takes place each year. Five generations of the Peirano Family have been farming the same land for over 100 years. Giacomo Peirano immigrated to the United States in 1879 and moved to Lodi two years later. The winery produces two distinct labels of wine: Heritage and Classic.
The Classic Label consists of the 2003 Autumn’s Blush (White Cabernet Sauvignon), 1999 Merlot, 1999 Sauvignon Blanc, 1999 Chardonnay, and 1998 Old Vine Zinfandel.
The Heritage Label is comprised of the 2004 The Other Red (70% Syrah, 20% Petite Sirah, and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon), 2004 The Other White (70% Chardonnay, 20% Sauvignon Blanc, and 10% Viognier), 2004 Viognier, 2003 Barbera, 2003 Petite Sirah, 2003 Sauvignon Blanc, 2002 Cabernet Sauvignon, 2002 Barbera, 2001 Merlot, 2001 Chardonnay, 1999 Shiraz, and 1999 Old Vine Zinfandel.
