Paradigm Winery

Mark as Favorite

Paradigm Winery is located in the Oakville wine region and has gained quite a following over the years. Paradigm vinifies only the best 30% of the grapes from their estate vineyard and makes excellent Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot.

Region: Napa Valley
Sub Region: Oakville
Wine: View all wines

Paradigm Winery is owned by Ren and Marilyn Harris. Ren is actually the great great nephew of General Mariano Vallejo. Vallejo originally granted the land that Paradigm is on to George Yount as part of the Caymus Rancho.

Because Paradigm wants to keep their production at 5,000 cases, they only use 30% of their grape yield. This ensures that Paradigm only uses the best of the grapes from their vineyard that particular year. The other grapes they produce are not to be taken lightly; they are sold to premium Napa Valley Wineries for top dollar.

Winemaker Heidi Barrett is a Napa Valley native who graduated from UC Davis. Before going to Paradigm, Barrett was the winemaker for some of Napa’s most prestigious wineries. Barrett is a minimalist in her approach to winemaking and lets the grapes speak for themselves.

Paradigm’s vineyards include 18 acres Merlot, 32 acres Cabernet Sauvignon, 2 acres Cabernet Franc and 1 acre of Zinfandel. Of Paradigm’s many noteworthy wines, the 2001 Cabernet Sauvignon and the 2002 Merlot have received a great deal of acclaim.

Got a chance to taste their Merlot at a wine tasting party. Beautiful fruit flavors, excellent balance, and well structed for a merlot. Pretty affordable too. I think its around 40.
