Pahlmeyer Winery is a highly acclaimed producer of Chardonnay and a red Bordeaux blend. Erin Green is the winemaker. Pahlmeyer’s proprietary red wine is 86% Cabernet Sauvignon but also contains 6% Merlot, 4.5% Cabernet Franc, 3% Petit Verdot, and .5% Malbec. Many of these grapes are bought from Stagecoach vineyard which is located in Atlas Peak.
The Sonoma Coast Chardonnay is an excellent hand-crafted wine made from the famous Ritchie Vineyard. It has beautiful tropical fruit flavors with hint of vanilla and spice from careful oak treatment. Less than 800 cases of this wine are made each year.
Over one-half of the grapes used to make Pahlmeyer’s Napa Valley Chardonnay were grown in the Atlas Peak AVA. This wine is more forward than the Sonoma Coast version. All of these wines are available at the winery or at a handful of restaurants and retailers.
