Orogeny Vineyards’ parent corporation, Chalone Wine Group, also owns several other high quality wineries and vineyards throughout California. These include Edna Valley Vineyard, Acacia Vineyard, and Quintessa.
Orogeny buys grapes from 5 small growers in the Green Valley AVA. Each of these properties ranges from 8 to 20 acres and are meticulously cared for. The winery also leases 20 acres in Marin County.
The Green Valley AVA is located in the cool, western part of Russian River Valley in Western Sonoma County. This is an ideal location for growing Pinot Noir, as cool air and fog enters the region through the Petaluma Gap overnight. In the morning, the fog begins to burn off, leading to sunny days that ripen the finicky Pinot Noir grape.
