OnThEdge Winery
OnThEdge Winery is literally “on the edge” of ridge that separates Napa Valley from Sonoma County. It is located in the Western Mayacamas Mountain high in the Spring Valley AVA.

OnThEdge Winery is a co-op of sorts. It is a group of Napa Valley vintners that collaborate to produce small amounts of wine from a handful of family properties. These include Frediani Vineyard, Luvisi Vineyard, and Jean Louis Vermeil Vineyard.
The 2002 Jean Louis Vermeil Cabernet Sauvignon is an exceptional wine that was handcrafted with a high degree of care. It was aged in French oak for 30 months before undergoing an additional 18 months of rest in the bottle.
The 2003 OnThEdge Frediani Vineyard Charbono is made with grapes from a small vineyard near the town of Calistoga. Charbono is an Italian varietal that is very similar to Dolcetto and may originally be from Piemonte. Others believe that it is from the Savoie region of France.
In any event, Charbono is increasingly popular in California as part of the “Cal-Italia” movement. Originally planted in the Golden State during the 1880s, a lot of people are excited about this grape. It produces deeply colored wines with characteristic plum and black pepper flavors. OnThEdge also makes a Cabernet Franc and Zinfandel from Frediani Vineyard.
