Mojons Bench produced their inaugural vintage in 2002. The winery also sources a bit of Cabernet Franc from a neighboring Alexander Valley vineyard to blend with their estate grapes. Mojons Bench recently released their 2003 Merlot to rave reviews. It was awarded a Gold Medal at the Sonoma County Harvest Fair.
The 2002 Merlot is blended with a small amount of Cabernet Franc. This gives the wine beautiful floral aromas and some notes of minerality. It was aged in a combination of French and American oak barrels. 1,233 cases were produced of this limited wine.
The 2002 Cabernet Franc was made in even smaller quantities than the Merlot. Made primarily with purchased Cab Franc, some Merlot from the family estate was added to make it more voluptuous on the mid-palate.
