Matthiasson Family Vineyards

Matthiasson Family Vineyards is a small, Napa Valley based producer that is owned and operated by husband and wife Steve Matthiasson and Jill Klein. There current offerings are the 2003 Napa Valley Red Wine and 2005 Napa Valley White Wine.

Matthiasson Family Vineyards sources grapes from several outstanding grape growers to produce their red and white blends. Steve Matthiasson and Jill Klein take a very proactive approach to tending their grapes and vinifying their wine. In Matthiasson and Klein’s words, “our hands touch every vine and every bottle.”

In addition to making his own wine, Matthiasson is also a highly respected vineyard manager in the Napa and Sonoma. He oversees all of the decisions in over 30 different vineyards, and purchases choice fruit for his own wines from several of these properties.

The 2005 Napa Valley White Wine is a blend of Sauvignon Blanc, Semillon, and Ribolla Gialla. Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon are the 2 classic white grapes from Grave, and Ribolla Gialla is originally from Friuli, Italy. Aged on its lees for several months, this wine was not racked before bottling.

The Matthiasson Family Vineyards 2003 Napa Valley Red Wine is made from grapes from 2 different vineyards in the Oak Knoll AVA. This wine is a blend of 60% Merlot from Red Hen Vineyard and 40% Cabernet Sauvignon from Meadowbrook Vineyard. It was aged in French oak for 18 months before bottling.
