Loring Wine Company is located in the Santa Rita Hills AVA of Santa Barbara County. The winery was established by Brian Loring in the late 1990s. If one word could describe the founder, it would be “obsessed.”
Like many of the wineries along California’s Central Coast, he focuses on Burgundian varietals. But unlike many of these producers, the sole grape made by Loring Pinot Noir. After tasting a Pinot made by Josh Jenson at Calera Wine Company in the Mount Harlan AVA, Mr. Loring became convinced of California’s potential for producing this noble grape.
Because Loring does not grow his own grapes, he sources them from local vineyards that share the same dedication to Pinot Noir that he does. These properties include Gary’s Vineyards, Rosella’s Vineyards, Keefer Ranch, Rancho Ontiveros, Brosseau, Naylor Dry Hole, Cargasacchi, Durell, Clos Pepe, and Llama Farm. Almost every wine Loring produces is vineyard designate.
