Legacy Winery

Mark as Favorite

Legacy is a premium quality producer that focuses on a single red wine made from grapes grown in Alexander Valley. This wine has won acclaim from many famous critics, including Robert Parker.

Graham Weerts is the winemaker for Legacy. He is originally from Cape Town, South Africa. After working a harvest for the winery, he was extremely taken with Alexander Valley, and returned a few years later to work for Legacy full-time.

The Legacy 2002 Red Wine is made with grapes grown in thin, hillside soils that drain remarkably well. Therein lies one of the major reason’s for this wine’s success; the others are the advantageous local climate and careful winemaking.

Mr. Weerts aged this wine in small French oak barrels for 16 months to balance its vibrant fruit flavors. This red blend is comprised of 73% Cabernet Sauvignon that was grown at an elevation of 2,400 feet above sea level. 10% of the Cab is from Peter Michael’s Knights Valley Vineyard, and the remaining 17% Merlot is from Franz Creek Vineyard.
