Robin Lail’s is the daughter of John Daniel Jr. and the great great grandniece of Gustave Niebaum. Niebaum was a Finnish sea captain whom established Inglenook Winery in 1879.
John Daniel Jr. later took over Inglenook and made what many experts consider to be some California’s best Cabernet Sauvignon ever during the 1940s and 1950s. Francis Ford Coppola bought the property in the 1970s and recently renamed it to Rubicon Estate.
Robin Lail’s property is located high in the Howell Mountain AVA. She only uses sustainable farming practices in the vineyard and is truly a steward of the land and her family name.
The J. Daniel Cuvee is made in honor of Lail’s father. Depending on the vintage, it is made of varying percentages of red Bordeaux grapes. The most recent release, the 2003, is a 100% Cabernet Sauvignon. It is made with fruit from Lail Vineyards in Howell Mountain and the Phillips Family Vine Hill Ranch in the Oakville AVA.
