La Vie Vineyards is located in Western Santa Barbara County. In 1998, Ariel and Angelica La Vie bought 40 acres of land in the Santa Rita Hills AVA. The couple met while studying botany and biology at UC Santa Cruz. After working with Clos Pepe, they began planting their organic vineyard shortly thereafter.
Like many wineries in the Santa Rita Hills AVA, Ariel and Angelica’s main focus in on Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. They produce several bottlings of these two varietals, but limit quantities to a few hundred cases a year.
Along with using estate fruit, La Vie also buys grapes from several premium vineyards including Clos Pepe, Sweeney Canyon, Fiddlestix, Sanford and Benedict, and Vigna Monte Nero.
Their Pinot Noirs include the 2004 Santa Barbara County Pinot Noir, 2004 Santa Lucia Highlands Ray’s Cuvee Pinot Noir, 2003 Rasta Rita Santa Rita Hills Pinot Noir, 2003 Black Mountain Reserve Santa Lucia Highlands Pinot Noir, and 2002 Vigna Monte Nero Santa Lucia Highlands Pinot Noir.
La Vie’s Chardonnays include the 2004 Santa Barbara County Chardonnay, 2000 Santa Rita Hills Chardonnay, and the 2001 Clos Pepe Reserve Chardonnay.
