The winery’s 2004 Russian River Valley Pinot Noir was ranked #7 on the 2006 Wine Spectator Top 100 Wines List. This is an impressive accomplishment, and Kosta Browne is in the company of some of the world’s finest wine estates.

They also make a number of other critically acclaimed Pinots. The Amber Ridge is a single vineyard wine that is also from the Russian River Valley. This is a spicy wine with red fruit flavors and noticeable oak treatment. The winery is known for its full bodied, extracted, and high alcohol Pinot Noir, and Amber Ridge does not disappoint.

The 4 Barrel Pinot Noir is a blend of winemaker Michael Browne’s favorite 4 barrels from the 2004 vintage. The grapes for this wine were grown in 4 different vineyards as well including Koplen, Kanzler, Cohn, and Amber Ridge Vineyards.

This winery produces some of the best pinot noir in California.

They definitely do! I had their '04 4 - Barrel Pinot...It was amazing.

I'll take your recommendation and grab a bottle.

There is so much hype around these wines. I tasted them in 04 and wasn't overly impressed. Solid but nothing super special. I'm going to have to revisit and see what all the fuss is about.

15% + alcohol is a bit much for Pinot Noir, but these wines are certainly blockbusters and have their adherents.

I can't wait till their 05 Pinots are released...

Me too Steve. They just released 2 of their 10 2005 Pinots.

I've heard their excellent, but you can't get them anywhere. I'm on their waiting list, but I heard you do just that on the list...wait

You need to request their distributor list and call around your local wine merchants to see who has them. Also, if you know someone at a service oriented type place(hint..hint..wink...wink), they will sometimes sell you the bottle.

i keep hearing the best things about this wine...can anyone who has tried it describe it?

i recently tried their 05 russian river pinot. its incredibly complex, with a deep, rich flavor profile. i'm not into writing fluffy reviews, but it was very good.

KB's '04 Kanzler, RRV and Sonoma Pinot's are all incredible. Among the best pinot's I've ever had. They are certainly worth all the hype and praise.

The 05's, however, though good, do not compare.

If you're really into Cali Pinots. Check out the 3 day World of Pinot event in Shell Beach. It's the world heavyweight championship bout of cali pinots. All the major and minor cali-pinot players are there, from Santa Barbara to the Sonoma Coast. You can compare all of the 06's. However, they're probably sold out by now. It's an extremely popular event. Plan for '09.

I had the '02 Kanzler Vineyard pinot. It needs more than an hour of breathing to open its totally lush, smooth interior. Great pinot with lots of time left.
