Owners Celia Ramsay and Kent Rasmussen make “purely poetic Pinot Noir.” In 1979, Mr. Rasmussen planted 6 acres of Pinot in Carneros.
This was a time when few vintners were betting on the region. During the 1980s, he established an additional 4 acres, producing his first “ultra premium” Pinot Noir and Chardonnay in 1986.
Prior to this, Rasmussen graduated with a degree in Enology from UC Davis in 1983. He also worked for Robert Mondavi Winery and Domaine Chandon in the Napa Valley as well as Saltram’s Wine Estate in Barossa Valley (Australia), and Stellenbosch in South Africa.
The winery does not have a tasting room but you can buy wine from their retail center by appointment. In addition to Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, Kent Rasmussen makes Petite Sirah, Cabernet Sauvignon, Zinfandel, and a late harvest Gewurztraminer. The winery also produces a second label called, “Ramsay.”
